All This Wasted Beauty

Virginia Reel Around the Fountain
written by The Halo Benders

Doug

You told yourself something fine in the membrane. You said you can't make you laugh. How can I be in the solid state? How can I be in the solid state?

Don't say no, just say you don't know...

How can I be in the solid state? 'Cause you make it unreal. I'm reeling around the sound tree. I'm reeling around the sound tree.

I still confide in you almost every day even though you're not around. How can I stay in your solid state? How can I be in the solid state?

Calvin

You begin to reel, and then you dance like him. Feel me apart, limb by limb, limb by limb. Wrestle that bull heart from the grass; pack my bag and make it last. Do a little dance on the kitchen table; rub you're tummy until you're able. Sixteen thousand men in white. Do a little dance with a carving knife. Slap your tummy and stand up and park it. Negotiate a full-service apple cart. Howl me over by cutting your hair. You sing along and let them stare. Bless your tummy and count it there. Innie, outtie, I don't care.

Do se do to the head of the class. Do se do to the head of the class. Do se do to the head of the class. Virginia reel, come around the mountain. Virginia reel around the mountain.

You're savage. You're savage. You're savage cabbage meat... You're savage. You're savage. You're savage. You're savage.

Ride beneath the steel ray, stumbling races in the passing lane. Shake what He gave you, it's preordained. Add a little rubbing to the pulling train. Go under a mule's harness. Don't send your flyer with a baseball bat. Here come the bunnies drinking sugar water. Do a little dance with the farmer's daughter. Here comes your most formidable task. Sack-pipe two and step on the gas. Sick, sick now with a hell of a mortgage. Rub your tummy and crank up the orange. Do a little dance with a carving knife. Wipe up torn mind civil rights. Roll me a part, bake me a cake. Innie, outtie, whatever you say.

Virginia reel, come around the mountain. Virginia reel around the fountain. Do se do to the head of the class. Do se do to the head of the class. Virginia reel, as savage as you feel.

Finally
written by Rusty Spell

When all the hourglass sands on your mantle have gone, when all the painters are dead, when you take out a small loan for a pint of Oxygen, that's when I'll know you're in love.

I know the time will come someday, but for now it is all that I can do to live. None of your reincarnated souls have ever known I've been alive, but someday my karma will win.

Then the endless summer. Then the days when my death spots are gone. Then the boring washeteria. Then the hard chore of falling in love.

In love, in love, in sweet love I've fallen in love, in love in love. Love, in love, in love in sweet love, I've fallen in. Oh, yes I've fallen in love.

Take an account of the days, months, and eons the planet's been and keep all those numbers in your mind. Add the time QVC commemorative plates take to rise in value. That's how long I've waited for you.

Through the middle ages. Through the days of the factory scene. Through the Reagan Era. Through the times when I have been in love.

Y3K you finally looked around and saw me standing there lined by the ATM machine. When Jesus peeped through the purple clouds and angels' trumpets blasted, that's when you actually kissed me.

Then internal fireworks. Then the sound of a race's last breath. Then I heard us dying. But finally we'd fallen in love.

In love, in love, in sweet love we've fallen in love, in love in love. Love, in love, in love in sweet love, we've fallen in.
Finally fallen in love.

There Is You
written by Rusty Spell

I know that there is suffering, and I know that there is dying, and I know bad things are meant to be, and I know that it's the end of eternity.

But then I know that there is you, and that's all I need to know, that there is you. Please don't ever let me go. And I love you, and I need you, and all that I care about is you.

Lately, the earth's been like a drunken man reeling from all the booze we gave to him. And we know the crazy weather is a sign that soon we will have to see the end of time.

You and only you. Oh, you. You and only you. We're almost dead, our lives been bled, but one more time just let me look at you.

He'll Never Say Goodbye
written by Rusty Spell

In the summer of all my beauty, I was untouchable, cold in the sun. But when his rain-drenched dog sat upon me, I could see then that my time was run up.

When he made me sit in the basement, locking the light bulbs in the fireproof vault, my mind fell on the pain and wonder of children making mudpies, growing up to love and die.

Rain and summer, dog and beauty. Mud and vaults and minds. And he really loved me in the morning, and he really loved me at night.

I threw away the Giga pet my sister gave me, and put on another 45. Thinking that the world was spinning just like this plastic record made it feel real to be alive.

And then he twisted my nightgown at the sleeve as I made another sigh. The perfect smell of his terrible coffee let me know he would never say goodbye.

He would never say goodbye. He would never say goodbye, not in a million. I love the sound as he turns out the light, knowing that he'll never say goodbye.

Should I Talk Slower?
written by Rusty Spell

I thought about it, what you said to me that day, how the thoughts were crystal perfect in your mind. I don't really doubt it, that we weren't cut out that way. I know you were only being kind. But should I talk slower when I say that I love you?
Because you don't really seem to understand. And could I grow weaker, could I faint and break into? Would it cause you to finally hold my hand?

And I never knew I could finish just thinking of you. Not a single touch in sight. I was only thinking of you.

If you don't love me, I'll evaporate and float away. I'll get torched in the sky like Icarus' magic wings. And when people listen to me, I will only say your name, your name, your name, your name, your name.

The Machine
written by Rusty Spell

On the last day of the world, you finished the machine you'd worked on since you were nineteen. Black and white hypnotic swirls running off of gasoline, humming white noise that put me to sleep. You knew the day would come when you were seventeen, the day your father stopped being mean. They lowered him in the ground, and you began to weep, not knowing which emotion it could really be. Transported back in time in a dream we began to see our entire lives replayed in our memory. Little boys and little girls wearing baggy grown-up clothes: Shaggy hair and curls, razor blades and panty hose. On a proscenium stage, they acted out our life together, and it was more tragic than when we actually lived it. You died while watching them, and then they turned to see death himself coming after me.

I Cry I Cry I Cry I Cry I Cry
written by Rusty Spell

On the last day of the world, in a dusty antique bar, where once I was your girl, and you loved me like a star, I see those days are gone, like the world where we belong. And there's nothing left to do but cry.

And I cry and I cry and I cry and I cry and I cry, while we die and we die and we die and we die and we die. But no one seems to care. No one even cares to say goodbye.

I can feel it coming now, like a slow and smoky train. I recall the perfect smell when we kissed out in the rain. So now the warning's come, and my head's between my knees. And there's nothing I can do but cry.

She Won't Find Us Here
written by Rusty Spell

Years ago, I was in love with a pretty girl who'd never come home. She stood me up every single day. Now time is passed, and I've tried to move on, but she's realized she did something wrong. Now that she's gone, she won't stay away.

She finds me at work. She finds me on the Internet. But I'll find a better place, and she won't find me there.

The time has come, and I am in love with another girl who won't leave me alone, and I don't want her to--I want her to be near. She takes me to her secret place where the other girl can never know, and she won't find us here.

She won't find us here. She won't find us anywhere. She'll never know the kind of love that we both have right here.

Sprite-Like
written by Rusty Spell

And the sprite-like little girl is too young, and the sprite-like little girl is too far away, and she's a full three points smarter, and I'll never get to see her again.

Go With Me
written by Rusty Spell

I know a place where tree nymphs dance with centaurs in the rain, and the sprites and fauns and fairies do the same. And I know a place where the gas pumps and the six packs shine all day while the nighttime teenage dreamers love and gaze.

Go with me, anywhere, will you go with me? To the lake or the beach or to get a used CD. I will go anywhere if you will go with me. Go with me, anywhere, will you go with me? To the gambling boats or to the library. I don't know how I'll live if you don't go with me.
